AMFS presents Lou Reed The Making of Transformer +
Lakeshore Record Exchange and the Memorial Art Gallery announce a DOUBLE FEATURE for the January Films in the Alternative Music Film Series
Lou Reed - The Making of Transformer and the special bonus retrospective Lou Reed Remembered
Rochester, NY January 10, 2014 -
On Friday, January 17th, Lakeshore Record Exchange in conjunction with The Memorial Art Gallery, debut the next films in the Alternative Music Film Series: Lou Reed - The Making of Transformer along with the special bonus retrospective Lou Reed Remembered.
Join us for our DOUBLE FEATURE tribute to Lou Reed!
The Making of Transformer features a relaxed Lou Reed looking like he's having the time of his life as he reminisces and isolates separate tracks to illustrate how the album came together. Bassist Herbie Flowers demonstrates how he recorded the swingy, impossibly catchy bass riff in "Walk on the Wild Side," and co-producer David Bowie makes a brief appearance, as do many of Reed's contemporaries and fellow musicians. Many express delight that the tracks sound as fresh as they did when they were recorded, especially "Vicious" and "Perfect Day. Transformer was produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, both of whom had been strongly influenced by Reed's work with the Velvet Underground. (82 Min)
Lou Reed Remembered brings together Reed's friends, fellow musicians (former Velvet Underground members Maureen Tucker and Doug Yule, along with Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, plus Debbie Harry and Boy George), critics, and those inspired by his example, both musically and as a notorious contrarian. They'll talk about how Reed "helped to shape a generation," how he helped create "a truly alternative, independent rock scene," and how he gave New York "its most provocative and potent soundtrack." -Spin Magazine (59 Min)
