Brand New Release and Restocks - Street Date 5/22//2012

SWANS "We Rose From Your Bed With the Sun in Our Head" (Young God - YG 1969) DBL.CD                (UPC: 658457196922 - CDSWANSWe R)
***Note from MICHAEL GIRA: "Thanks to all of you who attended the SWANS shows during our recent tours. The experience, for us, was life-giving and nourishing. The audiences were not only the largest with which we've ever been blessed, but the most genuinely connected and in tune with the sonic / psychic experience in which we all participate. Thank you! Represented in these discs are the best recordings we could provide of the (ever-evolving) shows. Those of you who attended the early ones realize that the first iterations of the music morphed and grew (seemingly with a will more expansive than our own) into something quite different by the end. This, in itself, was immensely gratifying. We also developed many new songs-or sonic events is perhaps a better way to describe some of them-along the way. In compiling these recordings and mixing them with my trusted friend and engineer KEVIN MCMAHON (at Marcata Studio, Gardiner NY), we did our best to represent that transition. If you choose to acquire this two-disc set, in my view it would behoove you to listen to the music at a generous volume level. This has absolutely nothing to do with an aggressive intent, as some mistakenly assume. Exactly the opposite, in fact. As with the live experience, it's all about immersion. We-Swans-experience that sense of being subsumed in something greater than ourselves when we perform, too. Maybe that's even our selfish reason for making the music in the first place. At the best of moments, it doesn't even feel as if we are playing the music ourselves. More that we're animated-vivified-by the ongoing sonic wave. I can't speak for my friends and cohorts, but it's what I live for. In any event, it's my hope these discs provide you with a positive experience of some sort..." Precedes (and previews material from) the upcoming The Seer 3xLP / 2xCD due late summer / early fall. Strictly limited to 2,000 copies for stores only. Fold-out digipack pacaging.

WHITE FENCE             "(Vol. 2) Family Perfume" (Woodsist - WOODSIST 058) LP   (LPWHITEFam2)
***"Wake up. Write. Write. Record. Tweak. Write. Record. Swallow. Tweak out. Tweak. Bounce. Write. Wake up. Record. Sex? No. Sleep. Wake up. Record.  "I hardly have anything but this anymore.... I had 80 songs, then chopped it to 60 and now to 30. It's a collection, and an album. I have some important things to say to myself. I'm a rock 'n' roll soldier forever. I melt music. When people talk to me, I'm thinking about some song to do. I think I've been cursed. I have no say in the matter. A rainbow Vex. It's OK though; it's for the greater good.  "A song can make someone feel so good, or make someone want to write a better one. And sometimes, it could make you rob a liquor store. These are the songs of a man in a bag, and his blue pen."-TIM PRESLEY, January 2012. Second volume of Tim Presley's new double-album set, limited to 1000 copies

WHITE FENCE "(Vol. 1 & 2) Family Perfume" (Woodsist - WOODSIST 059) CASSETTE   (MCWHITEFami)
***Family Perfume Vol. 1 & 2 compiles both volumes of TIM PRESLEY's latest album on one handy CD or cassette.  "Fuck nostalgia. Live the truth. Truth is feeling, truth is sound, truth is motion. I am believing. I am seeing. I am moving. Truth is forever. Meet the Tim Presley / White Fence Truth Serum. Imagine, if you will, that your Uncle Frank, Aunt Jane and Cousin Ricky all made out with George Harrison at the same time and felt good about it. That's what the Family Perfume smells like. Like the real shit. This ain't your regular mutton-chop rock. This is freak your fucking mom out 'cause she caught you naked in the backyard blasting this shit rock. This is not a joke. This is the hit factory. This is the eye. This is another planet. And hurry up, cause this perfume ain't available at no Macy's.  Fuck the Rolling Stones. Long live Keith. We're already dead. Smell the truth. Fuck the truth. Fuck rock and roll. Love rock and roll."-Ty Segall

***"MV & EE" is slang for zero gravity, and even though they've been doing it consistently better since forever, they still want to give you more of their best. The DIY wall of sound of Space Homestead was recorded over the course of a year in nine different studios, presenting as clearly as circumstances permit a living idea right here and now of what it is all about. These are sonics in motion, the satiate plural perfect supply of the hunger unusual, the picturesque in sound. Grab a shuttle for your spectra-sound furniture any time in any aeon and dig the volume of their trip.

VIOLENS "True" (Slumberland - SLR 169) LP   (UPC: 749846016911 - LPVIOLETrue)
***Brooklyn's VIOLENS was formed in 2007 by JORGE ELBRECHT (a producer, multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the art company Lansing-Dreiden). The band eludes classification, blending percussive guitar work and silky harmonies with a wash of '90s sonic pop via artists like Pale Saints, Cocteau Twins and McCarthy. Their 2010 self-recorded debut album Amoral is best understood as digital collage; a dark, guitar-and-synth-pop voyage of melodic and rhythmic collision. Violens' sophomore effort True shifts course toward a more subtle and desaturated sonic landscape. The writing process began while traveling together on tour, and showcases a more collaborative effort. Band members IDDO ARAD (backing vocals, synths, guitar) and MYLES MATHENY (backing vocals bass, guitar) had a much larger influence on the songwriting and the album's sonic direction. Framed by WILL BERMAN's distinctive drumming, True shows the band interacting and reflecting in ways both promising and exciting. Vinyl includes a digital download coupon. No export to Japan.
*VIOLENS "Totally True" (Slumberland - SLR 172) 7"   (UPC: 749846017277)

BLACK TAMBOURINE "OneTwoThreeFour" (Slumberland - SLR 170) DBL.7"   (UPC: 749846017079 - 07BLACKOneT)  ***It took a pretty special occasion to bring BLACK TAMBOURINE out of retirement, even temporarily, and the 20th birthday of singer PAM BERRY's Chickfactor magazine is definitely such an occasion. When the band was discussing the rather complicated logistics (members scattered across two continents) for the reunion shows, the idea of maybe doing some new recordings came to mind. Everyone quickly agreed that a tribute to one their favorite bands would be a fun project, and of course The Ramones jumped to the top of the list. After choosing which songs to work on, the band recorded using the same methodology as they did for the bonus tracks on their self-titled 2010 compilation LP. The gentlemen in the band convened in Maryland to lay down the music, the rough mixes were sent to Berry in London so she could add her inimitable vocals, and then the resulting recordings were sent back to Maryland for drummer ARCHIE MOORE to mix. The final result is OneTwoThreeFour, a double-7-inch EP featuring Black Tambourine's versions of four of their favorite Ramones tunes. Features guest spots from LINDA SMITH, ROSE MELBERG, DEE DEE (DUM DUM GIRLS), and JENNY ROBINSON (HONEYMOON DIARY). Packaged in a deluxe slipcover jacket with spine. Includes digital download coupon.
*BLACK TAMBOURINE "s/t" (Slumberland - SLR 111) CD   (UPC: 749846011121)
*BLACK TAMBOURINE "s/t" (Slumberland - SLR 111) LP   (UPC: 749846011114)

MRS MAGICIAN "Strange Heaven" (Swami - SWA 141) LP   (UPC: 655035214115 - LPMRS Mstra)
MRS MAGICIAN "Strange Heaven" (Swami - SWA 141) CD   (UPC: 655035214122 - CDMRS Mstra)
***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! MRS. MAGICIAN hails from the pilings of various San Diego piers. Like those pilings, their sound is encrusted with salty hooks and drenched in waves of reverb. Strange Heaven is the band's first LP and magnifies the cacophonous lullabies of their four previous singles. The record is for connoisseurs of fuzz, distortion, echo and reverb who prefer their noise to be tempered liberally with minor-key, bubblegum and sometimes haunting melody. These hoodads' pop songs are massive and exude a beach-shack, bummer-of-the-summer posture. Strange Heaven was produced by JOHN REIS (of Hot Snakes, Rocket from the Crypt, Night Marchers and Drive Like Jehu) in the way of the old masters in order to achieve a more musical hiss and crackle. The result is a timely and timeless artifact. LP includes a download.

GUIDED BY VOICES "Class Clown Spots a UFO" (GBV Inc - GBVI 21) 7"   (UPC: 655035082172 - 07GUIDEClas)
**The song "Class Clown Spots A UFO" is unusual for two reasons: 1) the title is not referenced in the lyrics. Most ROBERT POLLARD songs contain the title within the lyrics, often within the first line. 2) It's a re-working of an old (mid-80s) song that first appeared in (lovely, slow, sad) acoustic form under the title "Crocker's Favorite Song," on the King Shit and the Golden Boys LP from Box, and later on the "Director's Cut" of Bee Thousand, and still later, a more fleshed-out version appeared on Suitcase 3. Although, come to think of it, the process of reworking older songs is not actually so unusual for GUIDED BY VOICES (see inter alia, the progression of 1983's "Walls And Windows" to 1994's "Hardcore UFOs"). 3) We can't count. And finally, 4) it's a ridiculously catchy, melodically-complex, shot-through-with-melancholia song that serves as a kind of sadder and wiser riposte to XTC's "Making Plans For Nigel" as performed by the Hollies. The single contains two B-sides, "Message From The Moon", a TOBIN SPROUT number about the moon, clearly his favorite subject, and a "home-fi" (even lower than lo-fi!) version of "Worm w/ 7 Hearts" which has been studio recorded for the forthcoming album Class Clown Spots A UFO.
